NBA All-Star Game: Team LeBron kills Team Durant with triple fireworks – Giannis Antetokounmpo becomes MVP

NBA All-Star Game: Team LeBron kills Team Durant with triple fireworks - Giannis Antetokounmpo becomes MVP

In the annual NBA All-Star Game, Team LeBron made short work of Team Durant. The selection of the Lakers star decides the fun event with 170: 150, among other things thanks to a triple fireworks display by Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard. But MVP is Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is immortalized in the record books. Check out the highlights of the game here!

The Greek ended the game as the top scorer and sank all of his 16 attempts from the field (including 3/3 threesomes) on his way to 35 points – and that in just 19 minutes. Curry (28, 8/16 threesome) and Lillard (32, 8/16) meanwhile shot out all the lights, the Blazers guard also set the end point with a triple from the center line.

Team LeBron also knew how to please Jaylen Brown (22, 5/7 threesomes), Paul George (17, 5/7) and Chris Paul (6, 16 assists). The team captain himself only got 4 points and 4 assists and took a break in the entire second half (a total of 13 minutes).

On the other hand, Bradley Beal (26) became the best point collector for Team Durant, KD was not at the start due to an injury. Kyrie Irving (24 and 12 assists), Jayson Tatum (21) and James Harden (21) also cracked the 20-point mark. After Team LeBron had dominated the second quarter, there was no tension in the final section despite the so-called Elam ending.

NBA All-Star Game 2021: Embiid and Simmons are out

For the All-Star Game 2021, the NBA adopted the tried and tested format from the previous year, so Team LeBron and Team Durant dueled each other in three mini-games in the first three quarters. The winner of each section received $ 150,000 for charitable organizations, before the final section the results were totaled and 24 points were added to the leader’s score for the Final Target Score in honor of Kobe Bryant, who died last year. Whoever reaches this number of points first is the winner.

The All-Star Game took place without the two Sixers stars Joel Embiid (Team Durant) and Ben Simmons (Team LeBron), who were removed from the event a few hours before Tip-Off due to coronavirus contact tracing. Instead of Embiid, Zion Williamson started his first All-Star Game with Irving, Beal, Tatum and Kawhi.

James, Giannis, Nikola Jokic as well as Curry and Luka Doncic played in the backcourt for Team LeBron. The latter, however, seemed to be analyzing his disappointing performance in the Skills Challenge in his head when the players were introduced and had to be woken up by the chef first.

NBA All-Star Game: Curry and Lillard shoot out all the lights A little later, Irving initiated the spectacle with a first deep threesome, then Zion, Giannis and LeBron warmed up the fans for the dunk contest. Curry, meanwhile, kept his hot hand from the three-way contest, a no-look three from the corner, followed by a triple over the board from the Greek Freak and another three from Curry brought Team LeBron a first advantage in the middle of the first quarter (23 : 16) while Zion put several dunks on the ring.

On the way to 12 points in the first quarter, Curry also sunk a deep threesome almost from the center line. With the bench players on the court, Team Durant came up again, a cracking alley-oop-dunk by Donovan Mitchell cut it to 39:40. It stayed that way, the first quarter went to Team LeBron and the first $ 150,000 to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

The second quarter started again at 0-0, but initially brought more turnover and more free throws. However, the Dunkers quickly took over again, now Zion also hammered his slams through the trap and even Doncic took a flying lesson. Meanwhile, Giannis dominated the zone, Curry let it rain three more from the parking lot and infected Lillard and Antetokounmpo.

The trio gave Team LeBron a double-digit lead a few minutes before the end of the second round. Even Curry and CP3 were allowed to fly through the air for Alley-Oops, then Curry and Lillard fought a team-internal three-way contest from the middle line – and both scored! Team LeBron won the second quarter with a dominant performance (60:41).

All-Star Game 2021: Lillard marks the end

Even after the extended half-time break in which Anfernee Simons secured victory in the Slam Dunk Contest, Giannis just couldn’t miss it. With a three over the board, the Greek put his personal record on 16/16 out of the field in the middle of the third quarter. Giannis brought Team LeBron back into the game after a hot start from Beal and Irving and several triples from Jaylen Brown and Lillard put the Kings in front. Even a buzzer beater from Mitchell couldn’t prevent Team LeBron from securing the third quarter (46:45).

Team LeBron started with a 146: 125 lead in the final section, which team would be the first to reach the target number of 170 points, so would be the winner of the All-Star Games. In the last round, the intensity in defense increased significantly, but that didn’t change much for Team LeBron’s hot hand from downtown.

Team Durant tried again with a 9-0 run, but the gap was too big. Two triples in a row from Big Game Dame brought Team LeBron 3 points closer to victory, then Lillard closed the sack again. And in keeping with this game, almost from the center line! Team LeBron has won a total of $ 750,000 for charity, the King is 4-0 as General Manager of his All-Star Team.

NBA All-Star Game 2021: The most important statistics

Team LeBron vs. Team Durant 170: 150
  • In the first half, Curry narrowly missed the setting of an all-star record (7 threes). With 6 successful triples in 8 attempts, the reigning three-way champion could still be satisfied. Together with Lillard (4/7 threesomes) he was responsible for more threesomes than the entire Durant team (9/36, 25 percent).
  • In general, it went really well for Team LeBron from a distance. In 61 attempts, Curry, Lillard and Co. recorded 31 hits and thus 50.8 percent. On the other hand, there were only 27/72 triple attempts (37.5 percent).
  • With his 16 assists, CP3 grabbed first place in the ranking of all-time assistants in the All-Star Game. Point God overtook Magic Johnson (127) and is now at the top with a total of 128 assists. LeBron (98) meanwhile overtook Isiah Thomas with 4 assists to third.
  • Zion Williamson became the fourth youngest all-star of all time. At 20 years and 244 days, the Pelicans star joins an elite club, just behind Magic Johnson (20 years and 173 days) and LeBron James (20 years and 52 days). By far the youngest All-Star in NBA history is Kobe Bryant at 19 years and 169 days.

The votes for the All-Star Game 2021:

Giannis Antetokounmpo (Team LeBron) about his threesome over the board: “Usually the bank is closed on Sundays. But for me they worked overtime today.”

The star of the game: Giannis Antetokounmpo

It’s hard to get past the All-Star Games MVP, which also made history with its Statline. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the 26-year-old has the best field throw rate among all players with at least 10 throw attempts in an All-Star Game. Previously, the record was 8/8 out of Hal Greer’s field (1968). However, Lillard and Curry must also be mentioned at this point.

Action of the game

Even if it wasn’t quite enough to become the star of the game, the guard duo is honored again here. It was just amazing how Curry and Lillard started their personal three-way shootout from the middle line towards the end of the first half. First, Dame, Steph and CP3 sank three alley oops, then the first two focused on their real strength. Lillard put forward from the center line, a little to the left of the logo, and Curry followed ten seconds later from an almost identical position.

Dallas Mavericks

JJ Redick not yet in Dallas: “He should take his time”

JJ Redick not yet in Dallas: "He should take his time"

The Dallas Mavericks grabbed a small deal with New Orleans JJ Redick. The sniper is injured, however, it remains unclear when the veteran can intervene.

As the Mavs announced, JJ Redick is not yet with the team, but is doing his rehab individually after Redick received conservative treatment on the heel after the All-Star Break.

Dallas had acquired the 36-year-old as a package with ex-Bamberg’s Nicolo Melli from New Orleans, in return the forwards James Johnson and Wesley Iwundu as well as a second round pick and some cash in the Big Easy changed.

“We want to make sure the heel is at 100 percent,” said Mavs GM Donnie Nelson. “He should take his time and if he feels comfortable, he can come to Dallas and be integrated.” Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said the heel was making progress but he didn’t know when Redick would join the team.

Dallas sees JJ Redick as an important piece of the puzzle for the playoffs. The Shooting Guard has played more playoff games (110) than the rest of the Mavs roster. Over the season, Redick posted an average of 8.7 points with a three-way quota of around 36 percent.

However, the trade came as a bit of a surprise, with many anticipating a buyout from Redick. The Brooklyn Nets would have been the favorite, also because the Shooting Guard lives with his family in Brooklyn.

“He would have liked to have chosen his team himself, but it didn’t turn out that way,” said Nelson. “He told me that Luka (Doncic, editor’s note) was one of his favorite players and Luka has already written with him. Dirk (Nowitzki, editor’s note) has already done that too. I think that JJ is happy to be in Dallas. “

LeBron James and Dennis Schröder spoil LaMelo Ball's return to Los Angeles - Lakers drag Hornets away late

Against the Charlotte Hornets, LeBron James was clearly the best player on the field and, with the energetic support of Dennis Schröder, carried the Los Angeles Lakers to a 116-105 victory. LaMelo Ball impressed in his hometown.

Los Angeles Lakers (28-13) – Charlotte Hornets (20-20) 116: 105

James started with 13 points (6/7 FG) in the first quarter and always hit important throws when the Hornets threatened to equalize or to take the lead. The MVP candidate finished the game with 37 points (14/22 FG), 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Dennis Schröder fulfilled his role as a secondary playmaker well with 22 points (9/19 FG) and 7 assists. In addition, Kyle Kuzma and Talen Horton-Tucker each contributed 12 points from the bench.

LaMelo Ball held up well with 26 points (10/18 FG), 5 rebounds and 7 assists (but 6 turnovers), the Hornets lacked points, especially from Gordon Hayward (7), but the forward distributed 10 assists and collected 9 rebounds . Terry Rozier got 20 points and P.J. Washington impressed as a small ball center with 18, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Alex Caruso (5) was available to the Lakers again after his concussion, and Lakers coach Frank Vogel, without Anthony Davis and Marc Gasol, relied on Damian Jones as the center again. However, like Charlotte, L.A. later switched to smaller lineups, neither Jones nor Cody Zeller played more than 13 minutes.

With the victory and the simultaneous defeat of the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers are back in second place in the Western Conference. Charlotte ranks seventh in the east.

Lakers and Hornets play smallball

Both teams pushed the pace at the beginning of the game and scored again and again in the fast break, L.A. pulled away at 21:14. LeBron James (13) and Dennis Schröder (10) together scored 23 of the 31 Lakers points in the first quarter.

The high pace continued in the second quarter, but the Hornets lost control several times and allowed the Lakers with wild turnover (19:12 in total) a 14-2 run including a 51:33 lead in the middle of the section. Charlotte responded with seven unanswered points when James took a short break, but the King came back with five quick points before the break at halftime score of 60:45.

The Hornets came out of the cabin well and, with the help of a triplet from Rozier, were seven points behind. After a break, Charlotte extended his run with a triple from Ball to 16: 4 and leveled the game shortly afterwards. James Borrego waived starting center Cody Zeller and instead let P.J. Washington, Miles Bridges and Gordon Hayward play long distances in the front court, whereby the Hornets won the third section with 34:23 and went into the final section with only -4.

In the fourth quarter, the Lakers gained some distance with a 10-0 run and were able to hold this lead until the end, the Hornets did not get any closer than 7 points. Charlotte has three away games ahead of her with the Clippers, Spurs and Rockets. The Lakers receive the hot Hawks on Saturday afternoon, North American time.

Knicks legend Patrick Ewing has to identify himself: "Thought that was my hall"

Patrick Ewing is undoubtedly one of the most famous alumni of the New York Knicks, but on his return to the venerable Madison Square Garden, the former star of the NBA team had to identify himself.

“I thought that was my hall,” said the 58-year-old: “It’s terrible that I’m stopped, spoken to and asked for ID.”

Patrick Ewing was the coach of Georgetown Hoyas in New York, his college team beat the Villanova Wildcats 72:71. But after the game Ewing was occupied with something completely different. “Everyone in this arena has to fucking know who I am. But I’m being stopped, I can’t move freely. I just thought, ‘What the hell is going on? Is this really Madison Square Garden?'” Ewing said.

The former center played for the Knicks for 15 years and was elected all-star eleven times. He was twice in the finals with the franchise (1994, 1999), his jersey number 33 has not been awarded since 2003. So he wanted to get in touch with James Dolan, Knicks owner and manager of Madison Square Garden. “I guess I’ll have to call Mr. Dolan and ask, ‘Jesus, is my number under the roof or what?'”
